Hints for Homeowners
Helpful or Harmful?
Vaporizer-style humidifiers have grown in popularity lately & work well to add humidity into a room. The only problem is the mist you see can also contain tiny particles that will very quickly clog your furnace filter.
How fast? Just a few days.
Although this might not sound like a big deal, it can lead to your furnace malfunctioning, overheating, and overall trouble you could easily avoid with some quick changes:

1-ONLY use distilled water in these humidifiers (no tap water). This should eliminate the particles in the vapor.

2- Move the humidifier away from any return vents (where the air draws into your HVAC system).

3- Consider having Advanced Heating & Cooling install a whole-house humidifier onto your current forced-air system.

Some people mention they noticed a white film or fine dust on their counters while using these humidifiers. This is the same film that will quickly coat your furnace filter & cause problems. If you notice this sign, make sure to change your filter & follow the tips above.
